PITTSBURGH, PA—July 3, 2018 – Continuum Veterans Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps returning troops find jobs in the IT industry, has announced that it will hold its second annual fundraising gala on September 13, 2018 with Pittsburgh Steelers legend and U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) Veteran John Banaszak attending as keynote speaker. Held at the historic Edgeworth Club in Sewickley, PA, the gala will benefit Hire Heroes USA, the leading nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free and effective employment services to transitioning military members, veterans and military spouses, while bridging the gap between these men and women and the employers who want to hire them.
In May of this year, Hire Heroes USA reached 25,000 lifetime hires, a milestone made possible by a full suite of services that includes one-one-one resume, networking and interview assistance, along with federal sector help, and a growing variety of virtual service options, like employment workshops and career fairs. The funds raised at September’s gala will go towards supporting more of these services throughout 2018 and beyond, as Hire Heroes USA looks to empower more veterans and their spouses with the skills and opportunities they need for success in the workplace.
John Banaszak, the gala’s keynote speaker, will be delivering a speech titled “Winning Isn’t Everything, Being a Champion Is.” He was recently inducted into the United States Marine Corp Athletic Hall of Fame. He is best-known for his 7-year career as Defensive End for the Pittsburgh Steelers—holding three Super Bowl championships. John’s passion for the veterans cause is born of his own service in the United States Marine Corps. He served two years in the USMC, and then walked on at Eastern Michigan University. John also had a distinguished college football coaching career at both Robert Morris and Washington & Jefferson Universities.
The gala is being organized entirely by volunteers from Continuum, as part of the company’s support in helping veterans find jobs in IT. Through the Continuum Veterans Foundation, employees donate 20 hours a year of paid company time to various veterans causes, including the Yellow Ribbon Girls project that helps to purchase, wrap and fill boxes for veterans overseas.
